What is a “kungfubonanza” and what do you people do?

• Kungfubonanza.com is just a place to hang out and talk about whatever strikes my fancy. Food. Movies. The Good Book. Picture-taking. Halloween. Travel. Nerd stuff.

What’s all the magic behind the curtain?

It might surprise you, but I can’t run Kungfubonanza on wit alone. Behind all the striking photos and gorgeous prose is some real tech. “What is it?”, you ask. Keep reading.

• Wordpress, that lovely Princess of LAMP (”Linux + Apache + MySQL + PHP”, the nerds say), is the beauty that keeps us in line. She’s covered in plugins. ESV. Exec-PHP. FD Feedburner. Google Sitemaps. Phoogle Maps. Tippy. Viper’s Video Quicktags. WP-ContactForm. ZenPress. And others I can’t talk about.
• Fancy photo effects are provided by Thickbox.
• Our gallery is powered by ZenPhoto. I tried Gallery and Flickr and some of those other photo album giants, but I found ZenPhoto to be the best. No fuss. Easy interaction. And no silly options to order prints of our crummy pictures.
• I serve and spy on all three of our RSS feed readers through FeedBurner.
• Google is our mail provider. We gladly exchanged our privacy for the sweet Google Apps service.
• The theme is our own creation. We developed it with vim and Firefox (Firebug and ColorZilla helped a lot). The logo was created with Inkscape. I do most of the work on a G4 PowerBook.
